Melting Swiss Glaciers
Dammed lakes are set to play an ever more important role
News about the melting of Swiss glaciers has worried people over the last few years, however experts have come out to say that there will be sufficient water supplies for many years to come. Switzerland currently holds 6 percent of all freshwater supplies in Europe and this will be more than enough to supply their residents with fresh drinking water until 2099. Currently a lot of the storage of the water is held in the glaciers and this is used during Summer water shortages, but experts believe that it will more reliant on water within dammed lakes in the future. Funding from the Swiss governement is being sourced to increase the height of the dams which could significantly increase the water storage during winter months.
