Septic Tank Inspections

Post Series: Ultimate Blog Post Series

The EPA released information yesterday regarding the inspections of wastewater treatment systems (septic tanks) and the format that they will take. They are going to base inspections on a risk nbased approach initially due to the high number of systems.

There are a number of steps in the process:

(1) You will receive 10 days notice letter in the post to inform you of an upcoming inspection

(2) At the time of the inspection, have your registration cert, any desludging information and any other information to hand.

(3) The inpsector will carry out the inspection, checking for electrical/mechanical issues and poor performance criteria such as odours, leaks, ponding, excess sludge, pollution by contaminated discharge

(4) If the inspection passes, you will recive written compliance report confirmation

(5) If the inspection fails, you will be informed of this at the time and receive a advisory notice within 21 days of the inspection, detailing the reasons for failure. You may be eligible for a grant to remedy the issues.
