Leachate is liquid that has passed through matter and picked up solids and other harmful chemicals. It has the potential to enter the environment and cause pollution. It is general the run off from landfills or other industrial waste. It tends to have a very alkaline or acidic pH and be strongly odoured. The leachate from industry processes are sampled and analysed before allowing to enter the local wastewater treatment plant.
